CannibalAudit privacy & limitations

CannibalAudit privacy and limitations · Updated September 30, 2026

CannibalAudit helps you review possible keyword and topic conflicts between pages listed in a sitemap you choose. Alameda Marketing provides the extension and its optional assessment service.

What the extension reads

After you enter a sitemap and grant site access, the extension requests that sitemap and selected pages on the same origin. It reads URLs, titles, headings, meta descriptions, canonical URLs, indexing directives and short excerpts of page text. Requests omit cookies and authentication credentials. The extension does not read your other tabs, browsing history, saved passwords or private messages, and does not continuously monitor browsing.

Local processing and storage

Sitemap discovery, page extraction, term comparison and CSV generation happen in your browser. The most recent completed report is kept in extension session storage so you can reopen it during the current browser session. Chrome clears session storage when the browser session ends or the extension is reloaded, updated or disabled. The “Clear report & site access” control removes the saved report and granted host permissions, and turns off optional usage analytics. Any report open in another audit tab remains in that tab’s memory until it is closed. CSV files you download remain on your device until you delete them.

Optional automated assessment

Only when you select “Review pairs,” the extension sends matching pages’ URLs, titles, headings, descriptions, canonical URLs, excerpts (up to 1,200 characters per page) and overlap signals to Alameda Marketing’s service hosted on Netlify. That service sends this information to Google’s automated review service and returns an assessment. It does not send the full page HTML. URLs may contain query parameters and public page text may contain personal information; audit only pages you are authorized to submit.

Alameda Marketing’s application does not save the submitted page content or assessment on its server and does not log request bodies. Netlify processes request metadata such as IP addresses as part of hosting. A salted, daily hash of the request IP address and request counters are stored to limit abuse and API spending. Cleanup is scheduled daily to remove usage records more than seven days old; a service interruption may delay cleanup.

Google’s processing, retention and data-use terms depend on the Google service and account configuration. Read the Google service terms and Netlify privacy policy. Do not submit sensitive or confidential content.

Help requests

When you submit the in-extension help form, Alameda Marketing receives your reply email address, message, and optional sitemap URL through Netlify Forms. The form also includes the extension version and fixed campaign attribution fields. You can edit or remove the sitemap URL before sending. Your full report and page content are not attached automatically. Drafts stay in the open tab until it is closed or reloaded; they are cleared from the form after a successful submission. Netlify stores submitted requests and processes connection metadata and spam checks. Alameda Marketing uses requests to respond and arrange any help you ask for. Requests remain in our form inbox and correspondence until deleted; contact us to request deletion.

Optional usage analytics

Usage analytics is off by default. A visible prompt offers “Accept analytics” and “No thanks” the first time you open the extension. Both choices are remembered. You can change your choice at any time using “Usage analytics” at the bottom of the extension. Existing preferences are respected. If enabled, the extension sends opening, scan status, Review status, CSV download, help-form open and submission, and help-link click events to Google Analytics 4 through our Netlify service. Events include a randomly generated device identifier, session identifier, extension version and interface placement. These identifiers are pseudonymous; no name, email, audited domain, sitemap URL, page content, search terms or findings are included. Netlify processes connection metadata to deliver these requests. Turning analytics off removes the local analytics identifier and stops future usage events. It does not delete events previously received by Google.

These public information pages separately offer optional website analytics, also off by default. If allowed, Google Analytics loads and uses cookies to measure page views and link activity; Google receives browser and connection information, which can include IP addresses. The analytics page URL omits query parameters and the fragment. Your preference is stored locally for this website. Turning it off stops new events and removes this tool’s analytics cookies. Existing data remains subject to Google Analytics retention settings. See Google’s privacy policy.

Advertising and transfers

Advertising signals and personalization are disabled for this tool’s analytics. Alameda Marketing does not sell extension user data or use it for personalized advertising, creditworthiness or lending decisions. Data is transferred only to the service providers described above to deliver the requested assessment, respond to help requests and operate the service. Use of extension data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

The inline “Get help from Alameda Marketing” button opens a form in the audit screen. Other website links in the extension pass through our Cloudflare-hosted go.alamedamarketing.co link service and open our website with campaign attribution parameters. The link service records click time, campaign, referrer when available, approximate country and browser/device category; it uses a daily hashed identifier for approximate unique counts rather than storing raw IP addresses in its analytics database. Detailed click records are retained for up to 400 days. The website has its own privacy and analytics practices; the link does not include your audit, scanned domain or findings.

Assessment limitations

Reports identify possible content overlap, not verified ranking cannibalization. The extension does not collect Search Console queries, impressions, clicks, conversions or ranking history. Similar topics may serve different audiences or intent. Automated responses can be incomplete or incorrect. Verify recommendations against Search Console, analytics and your business requirements before changing pages, canonical tags, redirects or indexability.

Free audits accept submitted sitemaps with up to 100 unique URL entries, including child sitemaps. Discovery stops once it establishes that the sitemap exceeds 100 URLs; no page crawl or assessment starts for that sitemap. Larger audits require contacting Alameda Marketing. Up to 30 sitemap files are checked; incomplete discovery cannot establish eligibility for a free audit. At most 60 matching pairs are included for review. The tool reads the returned HTML without rendering JavaScript, skips off-origin sitemap entries and blocks redirects. Fetch errors, size limits and exclusions are disclosed in scan coverage and CSV exports. The audit is not a ranking guarantee or a complete technical SEO audit.
